The Crew Series Guide: From the Original Road Trip to Motorfest

October 16, 2026 · Zoey Payne

The Crew franchise has always been about freedom: big maps, varied vehicles and the joy of driving with friends. Here is how each entry compares.

The Crew (2014)

The original focused on a story-driven road trip across a scaled-down United States. Its strengths were the map, the car customization and the sense of a continent-wide adventure. Its servers have since been shut down, making it unplayable today.

The Crew 2 (2018)

The sequel added planes and boats, letting you switch between land, air and sea instantly. The map once again covered the US, and the focus shifted toward motorsport disciplines such as street racing, off-road and pro racing.

The Crew Motorfest (2023)

Motorfest moved the action to a festival on the island of O‘ahu, Hawaii. Themed playlists guide you through car culture, from Japanese tuners to classic American muscle. It is the most polished and accessible entry so far.

Which One Should You Play?

  • Want variety? The Crew 2 has the widest range of vehicle types.
  • Want polish and curated events? Motorfest is the best place to start.
  • Curious about history? Read up on the original and its role in the game preservation debate.

Whatever you choose, the series remains a scenic, social way to enjoy open-world racing.
